First of all, I know lots of ye will be coming and saying this is what the Minecraft Official Topic is. Well I think there should be a seperate place to discuss epic mods and mod making in general.
So yea, discuss mod making or mods!

Every time I try to get a mod, it doesn't work. I'm not even sure how I got Single Player Commands to work oh so many updates ago (1.8 I think). My other nerd friends (I go to a magnet school) are trying to urge me to take a tech class because of this (jokingly obviously but I'm sick of it and want to prove to them that I can do it so they'll stop). Can anyone please help me?

How are you going about this mod-installing?

I haven't done it since around 1.8, but I think there was a folder called "Mods" or whatever that I put it in (it was in %appdata%)
I looked for meta-inf but I couldn't find it.
And, since I'm an idiot with computers, should I back up my Minecraft worlds? I'm pretty sure I know how to do that.

I learnt the iHasCupquake way (that sounds like a diet/exercise regime )

It's not for the latest version but still accurate

Umm... You need to open minecraft.jar in a program like 7zip or WinRar, delete the meta-inf folder inside Minecraft.jar, and add the mod's .class files into minecraft.jar.

I am making a mod. I am not telling what is in it because I have a few original ideas.
