I think this is the right place to post this.
I am entering 6th grade on the 27th, as some of you might know. I selected a class called "Computer Skills and Applications" As one of my electives. Orientation was today, and i got all the electives i wanted, but they were split by semester. So i got my computer class and my art class this first semester. I'm really excited :] I want to share things i will do in this class with you guys, if you want to.
P.S. have you taken a class like this? Tell me what it's like.

Cool! I did something very similar... almost. The whole reason I went to school for the 2 weeks that I did was to attend FutureKids, a computer class. The one day that it was supposed to happen, we sat at the door for 2 hours waiting for the teacher who never showed up, and we were eventually chased away by a teacher that owns a nearby class.

I hope it's fun and NOT full of nerds.
But that's not likely

They probably taught how to turn on the computer. The 12th graders were doing what I did years ago.
The Scratch Day here was for grade 10 and up, so I wasn't allowed, but I would've kicked their butts so bad in a scripting competition. XP

Well, I took computers throughout elementary if that counts. I'm in sixth grade too, and the class I will probably like most is Foundations of Latin.
I used computers in elementary too.
I knew how to use a computer in PRESCHOOL. I'm not lying.

In my computer class, I had to learn Scratch, which I already knew

Don't expect much.
They believe that nobody has actual computer intelligence in middle school and that the old people teaching there are more versed than us.
Have fun typing and getting your WPM back for a semester.

In the programming class at my school, it was an elective so I expected it to be good. Then, I came to class and most of the people (including me, of course) were computer buffs, so I really expected the class to be good.
All I learned in that class is how to play Halo.
It was a terrible class.

Some of my friends had to take a Virtual School class, and apparently one of the first lessons was on how to use the internet ;_;

I hate to break it to ya, but those "Computer Classes" aren't really what they seem. You don't do any real programming. So what do you do in those classes? Basically stuff that we were taught how to do in the SECOND GRADE. They think that we have no computer skills and we need to be taught how to use one? Pfft.
I just entered seventh grade, and I was ABOUT to take Computer Tech, but then a kid I know who's in high school now but who I'm good friends with and went to my middle school said the class was utter garbage, and this kid is a real computer buff. Luckily I got another elective (which is a science class about animal biology, it's awesome. ) and some of my friends got Computer Tech. I asked them about it, and they said it was boring and totally not fun.
Have fun making PowerPoints, then.

They have that in my highschool
but with like
important stuff apperently
most people who signed up for it saw it as a free period so they just did that
I went for the other tech class which was
significantly more uh
advanced then turning on a computer and learning to hit the letters q a and z with my left hand

In primary school, I was smarter than the computer teacher. He wouldn't let us on stuff other than MS Paint or Word and stuff like that. I knew HTML when I was 9.

It's so irritating when grown-ups always expect kids not to know something, even if told otherwise. Wait, here's a conversation for an example:
BirdByte: *sits on chair, on laptop*
Other guy: "Do you ever do something?"
BirdByte: "Yeah, I knew HTML when I was 6."
Other guy: "Yeah, whatever, kid."
BirdByte: "Want me to make a website for you?"
Other guy: "Keep dreaming, kid."
BirdByte: "I'm serious, if you want an example go to birdbyte.tk"
Other guy: *turns to BirdByte* "Listen, you're interrupting my favorite TV show. Why don't you go finger paint or something?"

That's because school does that stupid thing where if one person doesn't understand, KEEP EVERYONE DOING IT UNTIL THEY DO!
No matter if that kid actually IS and idiot lacking the ability to do it, everyone can succeed!

Hmmm... I heard the rumour that our class can chose computer science next year and everyone I asked was like "Oh yeah! Let's learn some Power Point and Excel and Google skills". I tried them to explain that 70% of computer science was Maths but they didn't listen. They just thought of the "ITG" (German lessons but with computers) of th 5th grade which was soo boing for me because we learned things like copy and paste and how to open the internet browser -.-
I wish you good luck with your computer class and I hope, it won't be boring

My computer class in 5th and 6th grade were mainly typing, microsoft office, a little Alice, Google Earth, and Google Sketchup. My friend's school has i7 computers with a touchscreen. Lucky....
