Re: Got myself into a virtual pickle.

Here's what happened: (it's disappointing)
Day 1: We get to the venue. Epic opening ceremony with a 3D laser show and rock band. We go to the comp lab for the competition. We get 4 tasks:
- A quiz
- A Crossword
- In this one, the junior (me) had to invert the colors of an image and embed it in HTML; while the senior had to crack a substitution cipher. Nobody solved the cipher, I got the image in 20 seconds flat.
- Here the senior had many easy coding challenges. The junior (me) had to play Little Fighter 2, some cheap Chinese game with Chinese instructions. I was obliterated.

- Day 2: Had to make a game in a new language, GML. We made pong.

Re: Got myself into a virtual pickle.

Anyway, the worst bit was the in the final round the other team literally copied the manual word-by-word and got the sample game. They won.  sad

Meh. The competition you originally described sounded awesome!  big_smile

the senior had to crack a substitution cipher. Nobody solved the cipher

I don't suppose you can/it would be worth posting the cipher for us all to attempt to solve?

NOT when you code on a Windows 98 with a CRT monitor that took 4 minutes to boot.

They gave a passage and the encrypted text. The solution had something to do with putting the words in a "crossword"...
