No wait... I just tried picking up some of the lava it left after I removed the source block, but it doesn't actually pick up the lava. I always removed the lava by placing the lava in my bucket where the "extra" lava is and picking it up again.
Also, redstone is very easy to find and mine.

I only need one bucket of lava because I can pick up the lava I placed and use it again after I mine the obsidian and place more redstone.

I live in the cavehouse full of bricks, which has a melon, cactus, wheat, sugarcane, and chicken farm. I'm not sure how else I can confirm aside from Anuw once filled my house with leaves.

Yes, you only need one bucket of lava, but you'll eventually run out of redstone.

Yes, but it is very common and easy to mine.
EDIT: Also, my double drop chance is about 26%.

Okay, so atm, there are only unstable developer builds (even worse than beta, which is what I'm using right now), so I'll stay at 1.4.2 until a beta or recommended build of 1.4.4 or 1.4.5 comes out
