I don't get why people are saying "proud to be a nerd " and stuff like that.

One of the main factors in being a nerd is being anti-social, and why would you be proud of that? Being anti-social isn't healthy, and neither is being cooped up in a room all day overkill studying whatever interests you so much that you felt the need to give your social life in turn for it.

And nerds are perfectly social, just more commonly with other nerds.

The anti-social thing is a stereotype. It's true that a lot of nerds can be out of the picture a lot, but a lot also aren't really like that.

We "nerds" also like trying to meet with other people and make new friends, not just lock ourselves in our room either studying our brains out or gaming. I'm a very social person in real life.

Anyways, let's not get into any flame wars about nerds vs geek.

do you think the term "anti social behaviour" would be used in the law
and if youre saying it cant be used in that way then youre wrong

by calling yourself a nerd you're committing yourself to a stereotype
it isn't like saying "all blak ppls r dum hurr hurr" which is a hurtful stereotype and people can't choose to be black
it's saying "look at that nerd"
and if you turn around and say "yes i am a nerd" you're committing yourself to a stereotype which entitles
(a) being smart
(b) being anti social
(c) having no social skills at all
an alternate version of (c) is
(c) just being hard to get LAWL xd

Yes I already said let's stop this before it gets outta hand.

But really I don't see why you guys can't accept that nerds don't care what stereotypes or other people say and that they have their own thoughts and views about things. Me and my semi-girlfriend were chatting once about Lord of the Rings and some kid came by and was like, "Hey, nerds in love!"

And then we both said, "Yup, nerds for life" and hi-fived.

And the kid just walked away and never said anything of the sort again.

There is such a term as a "cool nerd", who is someone that is socially healthy yet also has the same interests that nerds have. I'm one of those "cool nerds"--I wear funny T-shirts, hold conversations without getting awkward, etc.

Anyways that's the final word on the topic as this is going to derail and then this'll get closed and we don't want this closed.

Now talk about your other guilty pleasures people. >:U
