In some movies and most television shows, there are many extremely awkward moments that are meant to be funny. I do not find them funny at all, and in fact they make me cringe and want to mute the volume until the moment has subsided.
A lot of this is crude humor - "bathroom humor" if you will. There are some things that are OK to joke about but stuff that happens in the bathroom, or stuff that happens in bed, just isn't funny! (ok I guess there are exceptions (Zombieland), but the majority is bad).
Other times there are jokes based on a character's ineptitude at dating/relationships. Those aren't funny, at least to me.
Most of the previews for reality television have these awkward moments in them, as do many comedy films or high school dramas. Do people actually find this funny or am I just missing the point, or taking things too seriously?

I partially agree.

why partially
Because there has been some romance related humor that I've found funny.

This can be pulled off well but usually it's just a lame zinger in an overcrowded, overstunk ocean of overused jokes. Other times it's just an annoying bit an a movie trailer/commercial and it's funnier or at least less annoying in context.
I actually do think that bathroom jokes are funny because my taste in comedy stopped maturing at 9 years old.

like I said, there are exceptions. "How to train your dragon" handled it really well

*Ahem* I honestly think that you are being rather serious in your analysis of this "bathroom humor" good sir, perhaps even more than the sophisticated tone of which I am speaking to you. XD I don't agree with you, but I understand and respect your opinion. People just have different tastes in humor (their maturity level may be a factor......).

Both have their strengths and weaknesses.
Now, remember, comedy = tragedy + timing.
Being bad with relationships is a tragedy for the character at hand, and timed right it ends up being a joke.
Bathroom related humor is pretty much always a tragedy for the characters, and timed right it is funny.

I find awkward moments like that, not really with bathroom humour, but with other things, whilst reading.

I cringe a lot at akward or embarrassing moments, but find them funny, too.
I wil watch/rread something and then imagine MYSELF in the roles subconciously. That is what makes me cringe or be afraud of scary stuff.

Meh. I find Holocaust jokes an awkward genre as well. Anne Frankly any other jokes which are related.

Awkward moments (Like some guy who's never talked to a girl before) can be funny if he says something completely stupid. If you cringe at this kinda stuff, maybe you somehow relate to it and don't wanna think about it.

I agree, it makes it, I dunno, awkward!! Awkward moments are just so.... awkward. XD
But seriously, to me some of the things just ruin the movie.
