Hey guys.
A while ago I launched a project on the misc forums about me learning how to fly. I gave up on it a short time after.
But now, i really am gonna fly. I'm working on creating a machine right now, maybe it's just willpower that does it, but by the end of this school year I want to have invented a working flying machine.
I would like input if you guys could give it to me. Thanks in advance.

Certainly. Crash pads are the answer, my friend.

How will you power it? And what about legal stuff? If I recall, you have to be 17 to fly solo.
I searched for "laws of flying" and I only got a humor article, so I'm not so sure, either.
EDIT: Link removed because I found bad language. That's bad.

Here's Wikipedia on the subject.

No, you must be over 14 with a valid pilot's license. However, I don't know if a license is even necessary for ultralights/experimentals.
Edit: Seems I'm wrong. But it is 16 years old for the Private Pilot certification, unless you manage a glider or balloon. However, I don't know that you're really in any danger besides the machine failing, to be honest.

You know, their famous flight machine stayed in the air a grand total of 12 seconds.
That's not much of a flight machine today now is it?
I'm sure the OP meant "as long as it has fuel, it'll stay in the air".

Depends on what kind of aircraft you're making. An ultralight? Rocket powered? Jet powered? Biplane? Helicopter? Propeller?

And don't make it out of metal because anything with a metal exterior is clearly an Apple product ripoff.

"There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. … Clearly, it is this second part, the missing, which presents the difficulties."

Anyway, I'm not sure how you would even start. Maybe that's just me not being sure what you mean.

Okay, now we're seriously off topic.
I think you could get some aluminium framing, and then make a frame, then use kevlar or something over it to make wings and surfaces. You could also use a wood framing, but you'd have to use light wood.
If you're making an ultralight that is.
What kind of engine are you going to use?

We're you summoned by the keyword "apple?"
any laptop with a clamshell design, chiclet keyboard and gray metal exterior will be called a ripoff of a MacBook by fanboys.

Just curious, where will you be launching off from?
Other than that, I just wanted to say good luck and don't die!

Actually, I've posted on this topic before that, and I'm very interested in flight. As for your other comment, we can discuss it on the MvP topic
