What if the Beatles never broke up while "Let It Be" was being released? What if they made another album in 1971?
A short story by Stephen Baxter explains what this would be like, complete with the fictious album's track listing. The story takes place in a parallel universe where the Beatles never broke up, but the Earth was destroyed by a hail of comets.
The track listing for the "twelfth album", entitled "God" (after the John Lennon song), features songs that were recorded by the band on their solo albums circa 1970-1971, and if you listen to these songs in order, you actually have a pretty cohesive album, that truly sounds like what a 1971 Beatles album would sound.
Discuss.

I think a more likely happenstance is that the band continued after John Lennon left, and recorded albums after that with more George involvement.

This makes so much sense. Well, except for the part about the world being destroyed by comets.

Yeah, and maybe they would add Eric Clapton to their roster (they considered doing that during the 'Let It Be' sessions when George left temporarily). Then, George would probably take John's place on rhythm guitar and Eric would fill the lead guitar parts.
That would be interesting, actually.

Hmm, perhaps. I'd like to hear that album.
