Welcome to Ask HumHum, the Scratch advice column! Here, I answer questions from Scratchers like you. If you would like to ask one, submit it at my forum thread, or ask in the comments below! Now, the questions.

   

You:   How do I become a Scratcher?

   HumHum:   This is one of the most common questions ever asked at Scratch. To become a Scratcher, you have to have three things. 1.) You have to have at least ten constructive and friendly comments on projects. Remember: Don't spam! 2.) You have to have at least two projects. And 3.) You have to have been Scratching for at least 30 days. All that together, you become a Scratcher!

You:   How can I spread word of my newest project without spamming?

   HumHum:   A lot of Scratchers would love to get their projects top viewed and loved. And there are ways to do that on Scratch, without spamming. You can advertise in your signature on the forums(A perk for Scratchers), or on another one of your projects. You can also post it on the 'Show and Tell' topic at the forums, and submit it to advert threads. Advert threads are a collection of projects that are all together in one topic. I hoped that helped you guys. 

You:   How can my project become front-paged?

   HumHum:   To get your project front paged. That is the goal of many Scratchers. I have had one of my projects featured, chosen by the Scratch Team. To get it front paged, first they have to have good quality. Second, you have to get them known, advertise them (like the question above). With that, someone will stumble across your project and make it known to the world. But the hard part is making the project high-quality. Take your time with graphics, and use non-annoying or repetitive sounds. Be careful with the scripting and work out any bugs. If you need help, go to the forums. Most Scratchers are very helpful there.

You:   What does "Bump" mean?

   HumHum:   "Bump" is a word you commonly see in the forums. It basically means to 'bump' up a forum to the first place, to the top of its topic. Usually the threads are lined up according to recent activity, so bumps help it get more views.

Maybe a column could be project review... Maybe take some screenshots, review them on a designated rubric, and add their 'stats': love-its, views, and comments. I could work some on that, as a writer/reporter.

Can I help Chongyian report on the Recent Collabs and Projects column?

Really? I've got to fix that.

I think we have to get it approved, so I'll wait for WingsGames.

Really? Sorry, I quit ScratchRank once that whole thing started. I think this will make a great story, and I bet WingsGames will approve.

You guys seem to be more in the loop about this sort of thing than I am. It seems to be a pretty important topic, so I'll definitely give it a spot in Buzz. I'll shift my article to the last Interest Story. Who'll be on the team for the article (writer, reporter, etc.)?
