I think it is. People are losing money off of what they made.
Not necessarily...

Well making games isn't free. If people copy the games, the creator doesn't profit. So they're losing money

Yes, it's totally bad enough to block encyclopedia sites, any screenshots of copyrighted characters, references, fanimations!
I agree with you!

Pirating is bad. If it has copyright, you can't copy it. It is wrong because the person who copy righted it probaly might sell it at a lower price, more people buy that, eg, the producers who put lots of effort into it get less money.

.-. what I MEANT is it's bad enough for them to pass a BILL about it.

Patents and extreme fear of violating copyrights are really holding back progress. I don't like minecraft very much, but I share notch's opinion on this- it'd sure be nice if everyone paid for a game, but in the long run, the more people that have the game, the more people know about it, and publicity is money. Piracy is not worth the trouble of big budget companies suing poor nerds who can't aford digital content.

Yeah, well I meant it was bad enough to block encyclopaedia sites, copyrighted screenshots, references and fanimations!
There ARE bills meant to stop piracy anyway. SOPA/PIPA are completely over the top.

The whole MegaUpload case shows that SOPA and PIPA are worthless. In case you didn't know, Copyright Infringement is ALREADY illegal and ALREADY unfairly enforced since 1998 with the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA). The enforcement is already unfair and is already being abused. All that needs to happen is a company to send a DCMA Takedown Notice to YouTube and they will take down the video to avoid being sued off of the Internet. Even with such an easy way to take down content, there is still piracy, and SOPA/PIPA will just make things worse for everyone else by making it possible for entire legitimate web sites (such as Wikipedia) to be BLACKLISTED because ONE USER posted infringing content.

You are a game developer. You spend thousands of dollars on making an epic game. You finish it and sell it for twenty dollars. You are not making any money back, but everybody's playing it. You find out that it is on some obscure torrent download website and you sue them. They win the case and you lose even more money. How do you feel?

It obviously is if you're prepared to pirate to save money. And with the current system, money is life. Money buys food, water, shelter...
