Windows updates are security updates and such. You don't put new features in security updates. And they don't happen often. Only every six months or so, depending on your service pack. If you were to update to Windows 8 when it comes out, THAT would introduce new features.
Your argument is invalid.
I got an email from Apple about Mountain Lion. That was NOT what I signed up for. I signed up for iTunes and App Store updates, not spam about their latest junky OS.

Security updates every 6 months? Not likely.
Like I said, Windows updates itself too frequently. There were literally over 1000 updates when I reinstalled Windows on a laptop. I don't need to buy Mountain Lion to get new features. I can install Messages on my Lion and I've just updated my Safari to Safari 6 which is the one Mountain Lion has.

No need to be mean
I use Safari, Chrome and Firefox, all three for different uses. I'm not partial to any one browser.

The security updates you get depend on the programs you have. On one of my computers, VLC Media Player has Windows updates a bunch.

I'm talking about OS updates, not independant software updates.
Even Microsoft Word on my Mac has annoying updates

With OS X, though, many of the software updates update software. :L

Wow. That's old. I'm not surprised it's not supported by MLBut, I looked, and all of the hardware meets the requirements except for the model. It has enough RAM, disk space, processor, graphics card, etc.
Looking at it, it seems to have a 2.0Ghz C2Duo, 512MB RAM, 64MB Graphics, 80GB HDD... is that the model you have?
No, mine has more like a 2.4 GHz C2 Duo, 2GB RAM (upgraded), 128 or 256MB graphics (don't remember which), 128 GB HDD

My dad works with one of those Apple Freaks (people who wait in line for the next iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, etc...), and before he gets it, he wants to see if it's buggy by asking the person he works with who's an Apple Freak.
For those who got it, is it better than lion? Is it glitchy?

OSX software updates only updates apps that are bundled with the computer or are Apple software such as iLife.

Downloaded and it's quite nice, I like notification center, iMessages and Game Center. Some Game Center games (Sky Gamblers!!) are just plain epic.

Yup - an operating system for $19.99.
Correction: An operating system upgrade for 20 dollars. For an operating system that you can only use on hardware that you already paid two grand for. Windows is offering a 40 dollar upgrade to Windows 8 to computers running XP, Vista, or 7, that can be installed on any modern computer.

Also, Windows has a flawed method of distribution of its new operating systems. Most users either don't have the mental capacity or the desire to download it all, burn it to a CD, and install it like that. Instead, they think that to get the new OS they need to buy another computer. Both Linux and OSX can update without the need for a full reinstallation.

You will buy a Mac. *waves hands around*
@16skittles: using the app store to distribute the new OS is definitely a smart move by apple.

He means that you have to have Apple hardware, so it isn't really that cheap. You still have to pay a lot for the hardware.

I revise my post about Windows 8 being an upgrade. I just today downloaded the preview and set it up in Virtualbox. It is the most impossible and unintuitive system to use on any device not including a touchscreen.
