Guess what? This is actually a mass suing. Who else are they suing? EA, Distinctive Developments, Full Fat Productions, Gameloft, Halfbrick Studios, Laminar Research, Madfinger Games, Polarbit and Square Enix. All over a software protection method. That's like being angry over someone eating the same brand of cereal as you.

Yeah, back on topic.

I'm making a minecraft-scratch event dedicated to being mad at uniloc. There will be TNTing two structures "owned" by uniloc, uniloc being a horde of monsters. I placed spawners on the first floor of the scratcher castle, but they're just slimes and magma cubes, which aren't too strong.

That's . . . that's really mean man.

There are humans with feelings doing this. This one thing they're doing does not make them that evil. Honestly, it's one patent.

The thing is just that Notch can never keep his yap shut. He could have dealt with this and won without blowing it our of proportion.

It's not just one case, and it's not a sure win. Uniloc has sued 73 companies over this patent, including Microsoft, who had to pay nearly 400 million dollars. As Notch said in his recent blog posts, you could come up with code completely by yourself and never even realize that it was patented.

This right here, is enough evidence to me, that these may be humans, but they are also monsters and horrible people.
EDIT: There also is a new splash text for this occasion.

Re: Patent trolls suing minecraft...

OT, at first glance, I read this as "Parent trolls"
I can just imagine

ACT I, SCENE II
MOTHER enters the scene.
'Son, it's time you stopped playing those games and got some fresh air!'
SON: 'But mother, it's my life.'
A tear falls from MOTHER's eye.
MOTHER: 'Can it be that my own son's life has been...stolen from him?'
SON continues to stare blankly at the computer screen.
MOTHER: 'There must be some remedy for this madness! Son, son! Speak to me!'
SON: 'Mother, please, do stop shouting. I'm trying to get away from this creeper, Mother...'
MOTHER: 'My son is in a place where there are creepers! I won't have it! What on earth are you doing?'
SON: 'Minecraft, Mother.'
MOTHER gasps.
MOTHER: 'They are responsible! I must sue!'

They're bad people, sure. But at the very most they're suing and probably won't win. I know it costs a lot for companies to go into court and such but in the end their actions won't be justified because they won't be gaining anything.

If they just want to see companies blow money away whether they receive it or not there's nothing we can do, unless one of you wants to stop the courts from allowing frivolous cases and fix our system?

I like the use of Mother's inner torment being spoken in monologue to the audience as a way to explore the deep and relevant feelings this provokes.

Yes, it is a deeply affecting soliloquy that cleverly incorporates emotion applicable to this scenario

Did you not see what I said? They got FOUR HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS from Microsoft! I don't think they should win this case, but given their history and the general Internet consensus that copyright/patent infringement is unfair and abused in the digital age, I don't see why you are so confident.

I'm not confident.
What do I have to confide in?

The legal system pretty much stinks. Maybe these people will open some eyes to the software patent issue? I think it's bad it had to be done this way, but it could in the long run fix some things and get these people punished.

These are bad people. Very bad people. But I'm not going to say we should pretend to kill and slaughter them in a video game.

Re: Patent trolls suing minecraft...

So er, most of what I know about this is from KurtJMac but this is what I think:

The US patent system is a mess, you can patent anything, someone's patented a machine which allows you to be under the impression that you're having a conversation with an inanimate object. Then a patent troll gets a patent for something so vague and stupid, which is pretty much "protecting data" then they make millions off it, the system needs to be rethought. Code also shouldn't be patented, if you spent hours and hours making something and someone downloads it illegally and sells it then yeah, you should sue, but you can't make something in Eclipse that does something then claim it's yours. I could patent the hello world code and then sue all the tutorials using it, the system is so easy to abuse.

Patent trolls, go sue Data Design Interactive (the LJN of this generation)

I'm just glad Nintendo isn't on there.

Re: Patent trolls suing minecraft...

I remember Paddle2See linking a video on Scratch about how patant infingement can hurt the industry. This is an example. In my opinion, if all ideas were patanted and that they bothered to sue infringers, than everyone but the suers would be richer and a greater inbalance would cover people all over the world before long enough, creativity would no longer be possible. Thats what courts were made for.

That's when you post on a topic several months old. It brings it to the top, displacing current conversation with old conversation, which is frowned upon, unless you have a legitimate reason for doing so.

"noone" means no one. They just forgot the space between words, I think.

It's actually meant to be a hyphen, if it was, say "neone" nobody would bother with the hyphen, nobody etc. is meant to have a hyphen but they look decent as just normal words, no-one is a weird word and I never use it for the fact that hyphens are rare in my paragraphs and it'd look weird either way.
