weird, it doesnt seem to happen with 1.619 or 1.617, i wonder what other numbers it happens with

I think the same thing happens with 3.14, it changes to the full pi value.

Also, 2.53 changes to 2.5300000000000002. It probably has to do with the way numbers are calculated and stored.
@jji7skyline If that happened, your computer would've exploded by now.

1.618 is an approximation of phi, (1 + √5) / 2
It definitely has something to do with the actual 1.618 being recognised as the abstract value and therefore being changed by Squeak automatically to fit the closest possible rational value.
However, I tried 3.142, 2.718, and 1.414 (just for good measure 
) but nothing interesting happened there.
