Alas, I have this glitch too. It only appears to happen on 64 bit systems though.

I'm hoping someone with squeak experience will dive in and take a look. It's not clear if the problem is within Scratch itself or the Squeakvm. Our only Squeak dev is tied up with 2.0 stuff though, so we won't be able to fix it I'm afraid.
I am wondering if there away to change the default windows size when Scratch starts up? Then Scratch would at least fill the screen a little better. Also where is the Scratch .image file located on linux.

I found the image is located in: /usr/share/scratch/Scratch.image
I am still wondering if a way there is way to fix the bug or change the default windows size when Scratch starts up.

If you manage to save the image with the correct size, it'll open up with that size next time.

I can't save the image after I re-size the window (the window goes black). I tried replacing an image with a proper windows size a for Scratch on Microsoft Windows with the Linux one, but when I started Scratch the window started out black. I think there is a difference between the Windows image and the Linux image. I do have access to shift-click-R and the system browser.

Bump, would really like some help.

I did some troubleshooting and found that if I right-click on the .image file and click open-with squeak there are no problems re-sizing the window, but full screen mode does not work. I was able to save the image in a proper windows size.
