That's not what she's (?) saying. She's saying kids at her school become arrogant and desensitised when they play these games. If you have the maturity level (which I don't believe anyone under the age of at least 15 can have), that's cool, play it.Also, I think it kind of desensitizes them to real-life violence. Like, it's fine to know about violence and drugs and so on, but it's not really cool to joke about it and treat it like it's like a game and joke about it and stuff. So I guess it does affect the way kids act, but not really in a "monkey see, monkey do" sort of way.
Personally if you play a game with a "Mature" rating and you are of age and you play it You are not Mature. I mean, if you play games like those all the time you are psycho. That material is kinda sick. 0-0
What. Nononono. If you have the correct maturity level and the right stomach for it go play and have fun!
But people on this topic say things about three year olds buying COD and my heart dies a little. My friend has played Halo and COD since he was ten, and well, I guess he's not too bad but I haven't met him for a while. He tends to have more violent 'Imagine if...'s then any of my other friends, but I dunno.
The last two posters have amazing views, and I'm inclined to agree with what they say. Though towards marcin, I believe it's covered more if it comes out of the blue then if it's like he's been playing COD for a while, and he's become more violent and moodier and then suddenly he's whatever. I think you may be inclined towards the opposite because of the recent shootings in Colorado, but that's being covered because it was so big, rather then the fact he was inspired by the Joker.

It has an influence, more than we realize. You may be normal after a long time of exposure, then you suddenly get an idea to do something from a random show, one of those, "do not try this at home" shows. You try it out, and boom, the house is gone. I know that's sort of a long shot, but it's just an example. You only have to do something once before it's done. Anyway, the point is, you may only ever get that little bit of the media rubbed off on you, but in this day and age, with the current culture, even a little bit is too much.

About violent games... in most of them, you kill people for something that actually makes sense. Like freedom. Remember that? REMEMBER THAT WE AMERICANS FOUGHT FOR FREEDOM?
If there's a game where you run around killing innocent people that game is sick. Also, I think that some games make it quite clear that if you do something bad like killing 9001 people than you're gonna get consequences. BAD ones.

Was that 9001 (over 9000) on purpose or not?

I was at a piano lesson, and my teachers little kid ran down and said "Mom, we should get game-fly! There are hundreds of titles and we could save money!"
like directly quoting the commercial.
funny but disturbing.

Violence is, if not, nearly impossible to avoid in media these days- in most cases, however, it is weak, cartoon violence, but there are graphic games like CoD in the mix. Only play Mature games if you are mature, but there are GOOD games like Kirby and Pokemon out there. Most people say they don't like mario because they think they're too good for real games, and have never even at least TRIED playing it.

I really hate that. If a kid draws someone with a kitchen knife they get put in a straight jacket.
Off topic, our school makes us call dice number cubes, cause the word dice is related to gambling. Our country revolves around lawsuits and going to extremes to be politically correct.

I thought it was because the singular form, "die", was considered violent.
Either way, it's stupid.
On topic: Personally, I don't think the video games they play affects the personality of the person, but the personality of the person affects the video games they play.

Wow.
Yeah, we can't even draw weapons in my school. So I can't even draw ninjas.

To be fair, ninjas are silent assassins you don't see coming.

Worst I play is T, only because of Castlevania (How is that rated teen, other than some exceptions in the series) and Total War (which is violent, but it teaches more history than school does.) I'm only 8.

I feel like it affects them. Maybe not a whole lot, but it can inspire them or influence them to do either good or bad things. I used to monitor these grade 3's during lunch, and one rainy day they decided playing 'Barbie'. Oh my gosh the things they did with those clotheless Barbies *shudder*. And then there's my second cousin (six years old I think) who has a few issues and is unable to speak properly yet; some of the only words I've ever heard him say are 'gun', 'kill' and 'die'.
Kids really shouldn't be exposed to these kind of things yet. They should be playing, like, Candyland or something, and playing outside in the sunshine. Not holed up inside staring at graphic violence.

BZZT Wrong. I made a comic 2 years ago depicting a robot with a laser cannon and a taser being fought with a rocket launcher. It got put in the classroom book rack.

You are practically saying any kind of violence is completely inappropriate for kids. I play kirby and minecraft daily, they both have weapons, you can kill things. Am I a killer maniac? Doesn't seem like it, does it. The worst I get is my sassiness.

In 3rd grade there we're about 3-5 people who liked family guy.
I was just like, NO. JUST NO.
That's sad. I HATE Family Guy. It ruined my early childhood memories when i heard Bugs Bunny got shot on that show. I cried for about 30 minutes.
I hate you, Seth McFarlane. YOU'LL PAY. If you show Tom and Jerry getting hurt like that, i will be five times more mad
You can't draw weapons at some of your schools? That's fail. My elementary school was laid back. They let us run up the slides. At my OLD elementary for Kindergarten and 1st, WE COULDEN'T RUN ON THE PLAYGROUND. ARE YOU SERIOUS?
Sorry for the bit of a rant... I was just mad at Family Guy.

What.
I've never actually seen Family Guy but from what I've heard, in the earlier episodes it was satirical.
And if you hold cartoon characters so dear that a non-canonical joke on an adult TV show makes you cry
