I've seen arguments to show that the interactivity allows anger to be used on pixels, and avoid it causing an issue in real life.

I am personally unaffected but if someone is, I think it's a deeper psychological issue than the fact that they played a video game. They probably already had problems and the videogame triggered them to do something wrong.

That's not what she's (?) saying. She's saying kids at her school become arrogant and desensitised when they play these games. If you have the maturity level (which I don't believe anyone under the age of at least 15 can have), that's cool, play it.

Also, I think it kind of desensitizes them to real-life violence. Like, it's fine to know about violence and drugs and so on, but it's not really cool to joke about it and treat it like it's like a game and stuff. So I guess it does affect the way kids act, but not really in a "monkey see, monkey do" sort of way.

Edit: I'm not too good at typing.

Violent video games also work for the government and is a form of propaganda as it desensitises people to violence and makes more people support wars and things as well as feel that violence is a way to solve a problem.

Personally if you play a game with a "Mature" rating and you are of age and you play it You are not Mature. I mean, if you play games like those all the time you are psycho. That material is kinda sick.  0-0

Have you ever actually played a mature game?

There's a lot of good content in them even if it simulates human death at times. There's expert storytelling in a lot of the, the skills required which are the main draw, and lots of other stuff.

Plenty of people of age play Maturely rated games because they can handle the material in them appropriately while enjoying a game for what it is.

People don't WANT to see others get blasted to smithereens. It's part of a deeper experience.

That depends on why it's mature - some are only Mature because of language and violence, whereas {^}%%|&) |€{^@: The *]^%\ing 4 should definitely not be played by people below the rating, and if you always play those kinds of things then you should really get another hobby.

I think parents should be involved in it too - some people see something like Black Ops and they're like, "oh, a spy game, that sounds fine". And then your 7 year old grows up to be one of those arrogant "lol violence is cool, xbox live, etc" type kids and everyone is sad.

Re: Do you think media affect the way kids act?

In my opinion, it affects the personality of the child if exposed long enough at a young age, but usually it may affect their habits temporarily. In my experience, I have been exposed to violent video games my entire life. When my mother's water broke, my dad was in the middle of playing Halo, and he used to set my cradle on the couch next to him while he played Fatal Frame. You would think I would have at least a bit of a dark personality, or something to show for that- but no. I'm known to be nice and caring, quiet but loud and leader like if I get to know you, and I feel bad if I accidentally step on an ant on the sidewalk. I feel like my dad raised me right, even if I have a bit of a social problem due to my computer habits.

Other kids, the ones who play COD and brag about their number of headshots, or meta game on both the Xbox and PS3, are usually not bad people. They often just like the thrill and action of these games, and how gratifying it is to shoot their target. Does this mean they'll translate it to real life? No.

In other media, like music and video, art, etc.- this is just an expression of how the artist feels. Most people like media they can relate to or find interesting. If a piece of art shows a gun, it doesn't mean the artist very much likes guns and uses a gun to do everything. It means they felt it was needed to portray the emotions and actions described in the illustration.

My point here is, children who exposed to different types of media doesn't mean that is how they will act. In my observations, it expresses themselves even if they aren't the ones who created it- if I'm sad, I don't listen to sad songs or watch sad things, I watch happy things to cheer me up. A child is more affected by their parent's and friend's actions than the media that they see or hear.

For example, my dad has trouble controlling his anger- and my sister has picked up on that throughout the years and now has many of the same habits my dad does. She also watch My Little Pony and listens to Selena Gomez and many other Disney stars. Did she learn to slap people in the face when she's angry from them? I think not.

Sorry for going on a full out rant there, it's just I needed to get that off my chest after hearing politicians speak about violent video games and my school banning art and pictures with images of any kind of weapon -.-"

Re: Do you think media affect the way kids act?

Normal children don't kill other people unless they are crazy.

So normal children won't kill anybody because of games or films.

Crazy children which feel need to kill will do it no matter if they play games watch movies or not, they can just kill differently if they played a game because they liked the way someone killed someone else in the game.

There are many people who don't play games or don't like films that kill:
Just see how many murdurers there were before computers or tv were introduced.
Mafias, gangs, thieves, bored guys, depressed guys, all of them can kill if they are crazy and not playing a game won't stop them.

Many people kill for different reasons I just don't know why media is the most blamed.

Nobody talks about a guy that killed someone on the street
But everybody talks about a guy that killed someone after playing game or watching a film.
