Re: Do you think media affect the way kids act?

If you ask me, I believe that there are many factors involved in how the media can effect children. If you look at it scientificly, you may notice that each child is different, which means that they do things, such as learning and reacting, in their own ways. That being said, if you were to the behavior of two or more individual children, you would probably find that there are similarities and differences in the things they do, how they learn, etc., with some of them being slight and others being more drastic. It could be possible that the media has an effect on childrens' influences, actions, role models, etc., but for the most part, I believe that it depends more on the kind of person they are, in relation to what they see/hear from the media. I believe that all children are perfectly capable of avoiding bad influence from the media, but some choose not to avoid it or are possibly forced into the bad influence. Not everything in the media is bad, although there are certain things that some should steer clear of until they are ready to handle it.

Fine, but that brings us to the point that killing virtual people isn't bad. If anything it's good, because it can let out aggression without harming real people.

Or make you WANT to kill real people

I literally almost lol'd at this.  The difference between shooting avatars and shooting people is that you KNOW that nothing in the game world is real.  That's why 'evil' is so popular in games.  It's just a game, and no matter how seriously you take it, it's still a game.  This is going slightly off on a tangent towards psychology here, but maybe the more realistic the game is, the MORE separated it is from reality, because it's a more immersive experience in a virtual world, hence an emphasis on 'virtual' in the subconscious mind.  Just thinking out loud there.

Just because you disagree with him does not render his point invalid... I think you should accept others' opinions as they are, rather than accusing them of being ignorant, especially since you are accusing others of "not contributing to the discussion".

I agree with maxskywalker here in the sense that it isn't the game, but then again if you get used to screaming profanities at your co-players like I have heard so many black ops people do, I think it can definitely affect your behavior. Its not the game affecting you, its the environment you are in. Since you arent in the same room as your opponent you can be as rude as you want without the threat of physical harm, and still remain anonymous.
