Windows 1.0 Commercial with Steve Ballmer (1985)

Whoa! I just saw the Windows 1.0 Commercial from 1985!
It's called "Steve Ballmer sells Windows 1.0".
Here is a link to the video: http://www.scratch.mit.edu/ext/youtube/?v=GL4hyATkQ74
Discuss the commercial!

It's uh interesting.  This seems to show us how ads have changed.  And I sounded like Cheddargirl in my head in that last sentence.

That's nothing. The commercial for the first Zelda game was a rap. I'll try to dig it up...

EDIT: Aha!

Re: Windows 1.0 Commercial with Steve Ballmer (1985)

1. The guy talks like the Pink Panther guy for some reason. Probably just me.

2. He touched the screen and the ferrari pasted into Microsoft Write. He's either showing how fingerprint proof the glass is, or it's a touchscreen.  tongue

3. $99? That was worth a lot back then. No wonder Microsoft Windows is so expensive even now. I wonder if they had 'Ultimate' versions and 'Home Basic' versions back then. Hope not.

4. Oooh yes! A clock! I'm definitely getting rid of my OSX Lion and upgrading to that! And Microsoft Paint! It's the future of Gimp!  big_smile

Obviously, but I'm just saying. All these things are meaningless now. Technology has moved on. And even the internet didn't really exist back then, so all you could do on your computer was minesweeper, clock, calculator, and word processing.

Oh yes, and MS Paint.

so then whats your point
miafan wasnt saying this was better than todays technology or nothin :P
and i used an online calculator to find that $99 back then would be about $211.45 today which isnt that much by some peoples standards

Windows 1.0 is now discontinued for some reason. Luckily they have Windows 7 in stores today!

Interesting isn't it. That's why Microsoft is so rich. They never lower their prices.

but you cant really complain about it being expensive since i went on the apple website and the lowest price i saw for any sort of mac was $599 while all the others were well over $1000
this should go in the pc vs mac topic shouldnt it

Yea it should, but that's hardware. OS is software. The Lion install thumb drive is just $69.

Let's just end it there. Continue on the MvP if you like.
