Alas, I have this glitch too. It only appears to happen on 64 bit systems though.

I'm hoping someone with squeak experience will dive in and take a look. It's not clear if the problem is within Scratch itself or the Squeakvm. Our only Squeak dev is tied up with 2.0 stuff though, so we won't be able to fix it I'm afraid.

My friend installed Debian on a Raspberri Pi and found Scratch pre-installed. Is this why?

why don't you ask around the AT like what you did when trying to move Scratch to the newer version of squeak?

Yes - the raspberry pi folks have included Scratch in their custom version of Debian. It's still kinda slow (there are some improvements needed in the way the arm squeak vm uses the display, I believe). But apparently that's being worked on.

Is there away to change the default windows size when Scratch starts up? Then Scratch would at least fill the screen a little better. Where is the Scratch .image file located.

Awesome! This is a real development. I know lots of Scratchers as well as members of the Scratch team were working hard to get this achieved!

Cool. This will make it much easier next time I mess up my computer (which is unlikely), it will make it easier to install Scratch. Usually if I mess up my computer, I use Ubuntu as my main OS until I can be bothered to install Windows (8 because I deleted the recovery partition to speed things up for dual booting) and reinstall GRUB bootloader.

Not that I'm aware of - but you could probably ask some of the squeak hackers in the AT forums. In fact, I was hoping one of them could take a look around the Scratch.image, and see if anything can be done to fix this (or at least figure out if the problem is caused by something in the squeak VM or something in Scratch itself).

You could probably turn fill screen off and simply re-size ScratchFrame.

When you save the image it turns back on fell screen so, which re-sizes the Scratch frame back to the size of the window.

I did some troubleshooting and found that if I right-click on the .image file and click open-with squeak there are no problems re-sizing the window, but full screen mode does not work. I was able to save the image in a proper windows size.

Correction! The shrinking window when Scratch is resized glitch also happens on 32 bit systems - so the 64 bit bit doesn't appear to be relevant. However, on my machine it only happens in Ubuntu's "3d" (default) mode. If I click the Ubuntu logo on the login Screen and select Ubuntu 2d, I can then run Scratch and resize the window, and it works fine (doesn't turn black and shrink.)

Ah - mine turned out to be a duplicate! So if you'd like to help out, the active / main bug is here:

Right now, it's looking like a problem in compiz.

Trying to install on debian so downloaded the deb file and dpkg -i it but it doesn't install a squeak vm. Add sqeakvm.org to apt sources.list and get squeak but then apt-get complains about scratch and removes it. dpkg -i again and scratch runs but if I try and use the open command on the menu get errors appearing so it needs more bits installed. Its gotta be easier than this surely?
