When You First Started Scratch

For the more experienced Scratchers, do you still remember how clueless you were when you first started Scratch? Were you nervous about the niceness of the community, or were you confident about your skills? I'm asking this because I forgot how I felt. Guess I'll have to go with the majority.  lol

First day was a burst of ideas...and then a good amount of frustration when I couldn't figure it out right away...but I caught on pretty quickly and the community was awesome about helping...I believe coolstuff and illusionist were the first people to help me and comment on one of my projects respectively.

Re: When You First Started Scratch

First day... I think I got my first comment after like 3-4 months on the site. I never really interacted with people, it was real gradual.

Re: When You First Started Scratch

At first I was very sucky with the software. I believe the first comment I got was quite early on. It was 1963 that gave me my first message.

Re: When You First Started Scratch

My first project was just a bunch of sprites spinning around. My second project had the "Touch me Trampoline" and the Cassy Dancing sprites in it, and my third project was Bowling Game, that I uploaded.

Re: When You First Started Scratch

I found that making scripts was very exciting as I could tell the computer what I wanted it to do and it followed exactly. I joined the forums much later. People were really nice and I got stuck into some collaborations. Then I discovered miscellaneous  tongue

Re: When You First Started Scratch

I joined Scratch when my ICT teacher said that I would be starting it in my ICT lessons in a few weeks. I wanted to get a bit of a headstart on my classmates so I downloaded it, opened it and then was very confused. sad  I thought that I could learn it by experimenting up until that point; but then I realised that I had no idea where to start so, as with everything, I went on YouTube and found a video walkthrough. This helped a lot and the blocks it didn't teach me I worked out for myself and I now have a large understanding of Scratch. smile

Me too!

Here goes...

I was bored during my holidays, so my parents introduced me to Scratch. I could hardly understand what the blocks did, and didn't make any projects. After lots of experimenting and without any help, I somehow managed to create a Mario project. (Surprising, isn't it?)

Well, I'm a self learner, and experiment by myself.

So there you go, my story.  tongue

Everyone has to start somewhere, so we'll be excited when we made an achievement.  big_smile

Re: When You First Started Scratch

Like Jon said, I remember feeling like a god when I could move my character with the arrow keys. Then I went online and saw some other projects and my self-esteem skyrocketed down. ;P

Then I noticed how much I had to learn. So I did. I learned, checked the forums. I don't really remember asking a whole lot on the forums. I liked figuring it out myself. Then I really came into the forums when I was fully familiarized with scratch. Now, I consider myself pretty experienced.  tongue

Well, no need to brag, but I could program an operating system better than Mac when I was born. lol

I really didn't understand much at first, and when my brother able to remix something to make something else about a script different, I thought he was god. But here I am.

What I mean i got a hang of it really quickly and I was tying to act normal like you're supposed to. I didn't know the pen and lists and the advanced stuff like trigonometry, but luckily, now i do.
