You may remember I said a few days ago that I would create a USB cable drive. Well, I did on that day, but I've only just gotten to uploading the images and things.
Here's the link to the gallery

Would you be interested in making something like this?
What would you do differently?

This is awesome! I was going to reply before, but I had to go. I want to get a new USB and do that. I don't want to do it to my 16GB USB because at the time I got it, it cost $65. I know they are heaps cheaper now, but I don't want to have to do all the reformatting and file copying which takes a couple of hours lol.

Yea, they're selling 3 8GB drives for under $20 at dick smiths right now
Also, make sure the cable you use isn't important, if you can't find an unused one, you can get a random one on eBay for 99c

I have a few spare ones.

This is cool, though kinda useless.
I would have kept the whole cable intact so that it could still be used as a cable, with a marking on flash drive side (so you know which side it is). You would just have to make the cable wires connect to the contacts of the drive's USB connector.
This might be useless though, because the computer might not know what to do with a flash drive and something else on the same USB port.

I don't think that would work because the USB would take the input still. Electricity is lazy and will try to take the shortest and easiest route, which would be the drive, not whatever is at the end of the cable.

It is true that electricity will take the easiest route. But if there is a route that is almost as easy, some of the electricity will take that as well. I can make an example if you want it.

There really wasn't enough space, considering I had to shave off a lot of the plastic inside to actually fit the chip in.
Oh, and if you do attempt this, get a really small usb drive, it helps

I think I have the exact same USB drive, just in Red and with my local library's logo on it
On another note, did you see the microSD chip inside it? Would it be possible to take out the chip and replace it with one of a larger capacity?

Lol yes. I don't know why some cheap USB drives have a MicroSD inside them.

It does on mine, which looks exactly the same. I don't know about yours, because you only showed the one side of it. Actuslly, they only look the same on the outside, I don't think yours has one.

No mine doesn't. Actually that case is very common. I have another one like it except in blue. The chip inside is slightly different as well and larger.
