It's be cool if people started like saying like: "I'll let you decide my downvote if I can choose one of your upvotes"
Trading. ;D

Nah, I'm from the UK.
But UK would have been my second downvote. ;P And I think a lot of people are from Sweden, I know two from Australia but I doubt any are from Japan or Sweden (since they aren't English countries)

You vote for China because millions of people work many hours a day in factories for next to no money.
Fair enough.

The topic title is 500 greatest, but aren't there less than 200 countries currently in existence?

I would upvote Japan. Longest life expectancy, lowest death rate, and leading force in most branches of science being the main concrete reasons, not counting universal preference. I would also downvote America (even though I live there), especially with the consideration of SOPA/PIPA and likely passing of CISPA.

You should make it so if the countries are tied, they're in alphabetical order (so Canada will still be on top
)

Updated. Here's the current top countries:
1. Canada (6)
1. Japan (6)
2. Sweden (5)
2. Australia (5)
3. United States of America (4)
3. United Kingdom of Great Britain (4)
@Andres' first post: I explained that a while ago. It's just to fit with the other 500 greatests. It's just a fad I'm using.

I'm downvoting Canada because they have the Montreal Canadiens.
